This ECM is a tough One

This is an explanation for the length of time it's taking to solve this one. Don't shoot the messenger here please.

c&p

To explain this new Dick PID 0106 keys... and B3V PID 0907

Dick has introduced a new secondary key code and provider PID 0106...the usual main PID (Provider ID) is 0101...normally we change the keys and auto roll to keys 0101, which we must ALWAYS still keep updated and current...but with this new PID (introduced originally 22 October) we cannot change these keys, and the auto roll doesn't input them, so a NEW bin is required whenever Dick changes the keys in PID 0106...The new PID can be used on any specific channels that Dick wants to , so in many cases Dick will input them on the PPV's, adult channels, and international channels..so that why you can get the regular channels with the older bins, but need a new bin for the channels that Dick (DN) uses the new PID 0106 keys now...

The same thing applies to B3V PID 0907 secondary keys..****ually main active B3V keys are 0901, NOT 0907...but B3V can use either or both sets of keys 0901 or 0907....just like DN can with main active keys 0101 and secondary new 0106 keys now..ON ANY CHANNNELS THEY CHOOSE, WHENEVER THEY CHOOSE..OR ALL CHANNELS, IF THEY WISH..

AT THIS POINT IN TIME, you MAY OR MAY NOT MANUALLY INPUT THESE SECONDARY DN 0106 AND B3V 0907 KEYS MANUALLY INTO FTA RECEIVERS, BUT NOT SUCCESSFULLY TO CORRECT AN ECM..AND YOU DO REQUIRE NEW FIXES/FILES...BUT SHOULD GET SOME CHANNELS UNLESS THESE SECONDARY KEYS ARE APPLIED TO ALL CHANNELS...

now how the keys work...

to get tv the receiver has to perform decryption which consists of many steps
lets call these steps :Steps 1->11 (i said 11 is which more than i think, but there has been so many changes in the last 2 years that things have gotten really out of hand when it comes to counting them, so I'm just picking higher number)

Step 1,2,3 is the Primary decryption that uses 0101 keys....after this step
some channels already work (including all audio channels)

Steps 4->11 is Additional decryption which when active (not right now may5/1:45pm, this is why all channels now work) are used on majority of all video channels.

since last November every time mecm comes that mecm is only used in Step 7 or 8 and for that step and that step only the new key 0106 is needed
the full emu would require a careful and complete processing of that very step 7/8 and although that is not very difficult it does pose some troubles here and there.

in a nutshell
The previous ECM similar to this one reportedly had two different map types, and this latest one is including several maps. It (the ECM) won't take out all channels unless all maps are used in the ECM and associated with a particular provider ID we can't manually fix ourselves in the box menus. The affected maps will generally include groups of channels that together are of more value to the providers than the normal network ones/local ones, and these pricey channels typically utilize the alternate provider ID that DN/B3V introduced last year. So Adult, PPV, international channels... anything they make serious money on, will be protected with the alternate provider ID(s) instead of the regular ones. These alternate IDs won't work with manually entered keys, and they won't auto roll when you need to rotate keys.

The only way the new providers are able to be used are through new BINs that update them. Now, add the fact that many maps are being used, and that adds work tp be done and extended times to getting the fix ready and released.

Basically, we have to sit back and be patient on this one. Good news is hopefully the coders will be ready for another one like this in the future from this encounter.

Hope this helps explain to some on whats going on,its not the end, just relaxes.

All hail to the coders. I was confused just reading the explanation.

Good c&p explanation. Thanks for sharing, scorpio1.

keys are keys...they have nothing do do with the control word except act as a door that must be passed through to get to them which is determined by the instructions contained in the mecm for multi channels. multi providers is a hurdle already solved but multi mecms and their sub routines will continue to be a challenge to determine them. the more logical explanation for why fixes are not popping up is that the providers have not finalized tweaking their ECMs and the coders are well aware of the futility of releasing a fix that is not final.

Multi-channel authorization messages (MECM) are encrypted by an algorithm different to the algorithm used to encrypt the mono-channel authorization messages (ECM).

The signal is of different types, according to whether they contain audio type information, video or of control. We are concerned with the control signal that tell us how to decrypt the audio and video. The signal includes many channels each of which encrypted according to one or more particular keys. This is necessary because of the fact that a subscriber can undertake a subscription for a channel without having the right to take advantage of others channels. The mecm contains the control word telling the receiver how to open the channel.

It is known that the more the encrypting algorithm is of high security, the more the operations necessary for the decrypting are long. On the other hand, the decrypting time taking part directly in the calculation of the commutation duration between channels, cannot be lengthened to improve the quality of the encryption. This is why the security of the used algorithms to obtain the control-words is obligingly limited by these constraints of time.

The aim of the mecm method is the ability of utilization of a control-word obtained by combination of the decrypting of an authorization message (ECM) for each channel and of the decrypting of an authorization message common to a group of channels.

Another illustration of the concept which is easier to understand....most keys even if private can be entered into the CAS of most receivers. Manually entering keys in itself when there is a mcem change is of no help. Why? The receiver is unable to compute the control word according to instructions contained within the mecm, thus you have nothing.

Pretty good explanation, understandable as to why some are Quick and some are just not do-able in the time frame that some people would want. especialy with further changes that could be done so easily by Dn,if not figured out completely by the BIN.:spidr:

Update From VS Coders

After having some difficulty and needing to rewrite the EMU. The solution is working. There was some difficulty finding the correct sequence on this one as it turned out that they are spliting each of the mapcalls used into 4 pieces with timers in between each mapcall. Files should be ready and tested for release very, very soon. Others Like SV and CW may follow with files about 4hrs after.

This is a more actual representation of what is going on. The last two sentenes are dealer hype and should be ignored.

I am always please to see any posts that go into a bit more detail, concerning

ECM, keys, programming etc. Files are great, but information is even better.

Thanks

More to it then just the keys has anyone checked the codespace on their card in the last few days??
