Been trying to save the TSOP's from a 301.010, but after doing so I can't open them in Flashedit. I get the won't open this because of bad checksums error. I've successfully saved Virgin TSOP's before, but after like 12 tries, it just won't take, and I'm tired and going to bed.
Any ideas????? Help me get a fresh start tomorrow.

hey bang,
what exactly are you trying to use flashedit for?
just save your original tsop with jkeys and then use a pre-modified public norsa bin.
(save original tsop if needed- i don`t think i ever have unless i was using my own subbed box. unless the box is going to resubbed some day, a back up of the original shouldn`t be needed, at least i have never needed to keep 1)

Are you using a buffered jtag? If yes, maybe try new batteries and check the connections to make sure all is making good contact.

I've had that problem before and found that by going into Flash Programming Mode (like you would if you were going to Write a TSOP bin file), then doing the Save TSOP from there would yield better results.
Not sure why but suspect that in the Flash Programming Mode the receiver is halted from any background tasks going on so it minimizes errors compared to Saving when not in Flash Programming Mode.
Regarding using Flash Edit afterwards, it is a good idea and a quick check to see that you got some good reads from the receiver. If bad, Flash Edit will let you know with an error message.
One last thing, if you are using a pogo pin style JTAG they can be problematic due to bad connections from a pin moving while holding it in place for the several minutes it takes to read a TSOP bin. A Simple JTAG soldered in is more reliable.

just an idea thats worked for me.
making sure good connection with
jtag
open jkeys and it shows pertinent info
right away save both tsops
twice yes 2 times
and birdman, not trying to be a jerk
i assure you
but the idea to just pretend save it and move on is bad lol
flashedit has proven to be useful in
dictating proper tsops as well as eeprom creation

hmmm so i pick up an ird for a few $ off flea bay, give me 1 reason that i would go back to that original tsop?
last i checked, this isn`t nag1 anymore, maybe back in the days of the ird - ecm`s, but now? there are all sorts of good backups modded and unmodded out there. i haven`t even used flash edit since nag1 and have had no problems.
not be a jerk either but i`ve never have gone backwards in nag2 and i`ve modded many of these ird`s. some people just like to make extra work for themselves i guess, to each his own

or just repair it with flash edit .................lol
copy the proper checksum from the bottom right side and past it into the box above it
then click crc so its green
now save your bin and reload it
you will see it loads just fine and will right fine
PS this is all done in advanced mode !!

so your saying there is no reason to keep the only backup ...
just because we are on N2 dont mean you will never sell that box and or want to sub it
also comesin handy with PVT info
but in a sence you kinda right as in you dont need the hole tsop just the
SK,IRD,BOX KEYS

my point is exactly that. unless you are going to sell the ird (usually worth more modded) or sub it (lol just give b*v 7$, they`ll give ya a 3100 with a 1 or 2 year contract, i got 2 of them for 14$ with the sat d*sh) whats the original tsop`s purpose other than an extra file hanging on the hard drive, i`ve got enuff of them myself + there are unmodded tsops out there anyway
after modding lots of these, i`ve just found myself many short cuts and cutting out flash edit is 1 of them and use an allready modded tsop, anyway it`s testing, we all have different methods.
have a good 1 guys bm out

Wow .... Lots of responses ...Awesome guys ... Thanks eh!
OK ....
Birdmanink:
Using Flashedit just to verify a good read of the TSOP's JKeys is saving. Then I will use Flashedit to mod to Public Keyset if I can't find a modded TSOP in our TSOP Bank. I know that I might never need or utilize them, but I want the Original TSOP's saved for future considerations.
Clydesdale/Sandman:
I mod the IRD's to work with my Phone Jack JTag's. Unbuffered.
Sandman:
Thanks, I will try saving the TSOP's from the Flash Programming mode.
mannybeef:
Thanks, but that is exactly what I am trying to do.
buddy456:
I noticed I was able open the TSOP's in Advance, but not in Beginner, but didn't want to alter anything in there until I had a good read first. But if Sandman's suggestion doesn't work, I will try doing that. I can always get another bad read TSOP if that doesn't work, right? LOL

OK .....
Sandman, your method worked, although it names the file differently, it was a good read on the first try. Thank you.
Buddy 456, I tried to do it your way, but I couldn't get another bad read (sounds odd to complain about that eh). But I will keep that in mind as I want to try that the very next time I do get a bad read to see how it works in the long run.
Thanks again guys, appreciate the help.
