The lnb that is used with St*r Cho*ce is only good for that satellite. One can turn a St*r Cho*ce d*sh into a d*sh 500 system. Replace the lnbs and shorten the arm extending from the d*sh by 2.5 inches. It works very well and the signal is actually stronger than my other (it is a 18") round d*sh. It is setup to receive 110 and 119.

Not totally true. SC uses a linear LNB this is used for 105 and 121 d!sh internationals that are being phased out. But it also works for true FTA on 97 and 123. Go true free TV, it suxs but you can watch it. :)

They do make great d!sh 500 replacements. This is because they are 30" d!shes so you get really good strength after the mod.

happy testing

For it to work as a true FTA to get 97 or 123, can you use the d*sh like it is, just point it. (st@rCho!ce) Thinking of going this way where N3 is comming.

I think so, I'm not sure how the the FTA box will react to the internal switches in the dual LNB but I do believe it will work as is.

Is it neccessary to cut the arm? I know someone that just mounted an Invacom Lnb, and used it like that. Very curious.:spidr:
The focal point should be the same, No?

you need to cut the arm only if you install the Y adapter for two lnbs. If your attaching one LNB the arm should be at the correct length. But they can be tuff to aim some times. The SC d*sh is actually a 30" relflector witht the top and bottom cut off so they get really good signal for circular applications. You might need to do some bending and use a bunch of duct tape but they work well. I used one for a bit.

So from what I have red , the st*rchoice d*sh will work, also this d*sh has the dual LNB on it & was used for st*rchoice satellite. So can I install a motor with this d*sh, the way it is & then I can lock on the to the satellite. PS - I on the east coast (nova scotia)

Thanks

well I'd test it first before installing a motor. You most likely won't be able to swithch between lnbs but I do believe that you can connect this d*sh to an FTA receiver and use it to pickup linear birds such as 123 and 97 the way it is. But once again I don't know how the FTA receiver will react to the internal switches inside the LNB it might be some wacky setup that just won't work with the receiver. However if all else fails you can mount a different LNB to the arm with some creative mods to get the new LNB pointed at the focal point correctly. Just use the old LNB as a template for the correct angle, height, and position if you need to. I've always replaced the LNB but the stock one could work.

I'd be the LO will be 10750 and the LNB type would be standard.

How did you attach lnb? Seems like the original lnb is attached at the middle. Would bending the arm help?
Does it have to point from the same point as the old lnb? Got it working with duct tape attached to the old lnb.

Thanks for all the info, like you said I will try the dish the way it is first.

Thanks again

Well I had some LNB mounts left over from a few 30" installs I did. I used wood shims and zipties to position the LNB and I may have even warmed the plastic a little with a torch to bend it where I needed it. These can work pretty good for a d*sh500 replacement my using the the Y adapter and trimming about 2" from the end of the arm. There is a post about doing that somewhere around this section.
