I've been using my 722 fine for 3 months and tonight it started rebooting while watching it. I'm using an Atmega w/ PAL and have been the whole time.

Anyone know what is going on or how to fix?

thx!

could be overheating or it could possibly be the harddrive causing those issues.

I took the cover off and put a fan on it... still happens so I don't think it is a heat issue.

It will play live tv or a recording for about 10 minutes before each reboot... I can delete shows, etc... would a drive problem allow these?

unfortunately not as much is know about the VIP as the older ones. I'm just guessing here. Maybe try unplugging the sata cable to the HDD and see how that goes. Then again the 722 is picky and messing with the harddrive could cause more issues.

This is very odd...

I took the cover and front panel off (in case the atmega was not making proper contact) and it just ran (recorded a show & watched another recording at the same time) for just a bit over an hour. No extra cooling either.

then rebooted in the middle of watching a the show it just recorded

I'm lost as to what is the issue.

some VIP units do not like a lot of extra tiers on the bin. try trimming some that u dont use and clean the bin really good b 4 u write new tiers to it. just a thought.

I removed a lot of tiers... it used to run fine with many more than it has now.

It is an Atmega using PAL so no 'bin' to clean. I have Virginized it several times before writing.

I even tried to tighten the PPV tiers... though I have not found any good info on what to use for PPV tiering.

Now I'm almost positive it is a heat issue... but a really bad one!

It worked for 2.5 hrs with the cover off and the 57F outside air almost directly on it (it 2' from the back door)

The house is 73F inside and after I closed the door for 10 minutes, boom, reboot.

I felt over the unit and nothing was hot to the touch, except the hard drive.

Anyone know what typically overheats? I'm thinking it might be the hard drive causing it but before I buy another one I wanted to see if anyone had any idea of what usually causes overheating issues.

thx guys!

I've been running most of the day with the cover on - and the hard drive unplugged!

The HD was heating so much either it was directly causing the reboot OR the heat from it was causing something else to crap out.

I'm going to get another drive to see if it was the drive itself causing the reboots, or if it was the heat from the drive messing with the replacement chip.

Anyone got a drive I can borrow :D
