triwire

Good morning all.
I currently have a sub with two 3100 receivers on it. One is working fine, the other keeps rebooting itself (not sure if that is what is really happening). The green light will flicker off, then on, then the receiver has to go through the testing transponer screen 1of 5, 2 of 5... then it updates the guide and goes back to your channel. More often it will do it if you are surfing the guide. It is definatly the receiver as we switched it to our other TV and it did the same thing. Its not the remote, as right now we only have one remote and it works fine on the other 3100 we have.
Any idea's.
I also have two other receivers that are unuseable becasue the person they came from had an upaid bill. Is there maybe a part I can rob from those ones?
I can fix anyting as long as the directions are not technical.
Thanks, and happy testing everyone.

Some thoughts...
Possibly an overheating issue on that receiver.Enclosed in a cabinet or some other device (amplifier, DVD player, etc.) stacked on top of it causing poor circulation.
....or, maybe the Maxim chip behind the Satellite In connection is loosing it's ground...which is fairly common on 3100s.
Check your Signal Strength on the receiver (Point d*sh menu) and see if it is fluctuating.

Sounds like a prob with the "sat in" chip. Are the other IRDs 3100 or 301.10? Do you have a jtag?
If you have a jtag, read the info off the problem IRD & program it to another 3100. Make a back up of the new 3100 1st, 2 similar reads of the tsop - use a proggy like CheckID Files to compare sucessive reads of the tsops, 2 similar reads usually indicates a good copy of the tsop.
If you don't have a 2nd 3100 or a jtag there is another way to fix - let us know.
MORE INFO Please.

i have had that problem with 3100 receiver and i usually got it cleared up by going options 6-3-1 signal screen and then go check switch. let it run trough and should be ok . if that dont do it try checking your sat wire for a splitter and remove it .

I think people could be jumping ahead here. Let's start with the simplest thing, try switching it with the other receiver. If the other receiver ends up having bad signal then you should check the lnb because it could be getting weak. Try switching the cables there to see if it is the issue. Next you can try checking the RG6 cable to your splitter, if it is good then try reversing the cables on your splitter to see if that changes things. If all these things fail then I would go more technical and perhaps jtag the unit and install a fresh tsop. I hope you get it fixed. I've had this situation twice and found it to be an LNB the first time, and the second time was the switch. Good luck.
